I write about things I find genuinely interesting: kayaking, camping, hiking, nature, DIY, technology, rural living, and kit. And occasionally, the quiet moments that are easy to miss. None of it involves politics or bad news – there’s enough of that elsewhere.

In my working life I investigate things: finding out what happened, understanding the detail, and then explaining it clearly. This site scratches the same itch, pointed at the good things in life.

I’m in my mid-forties and married to the local vet. We live in an old barn on the side of a hill in the Lake District with our two dogs, and we are slowly rewilding a small plot of land near the house with native trees.

Everything I’ve reviewed on this site was bought with my own money. I’m not sponsored. My reviews tend to be positive because I do a lot of due diligence before I buy. You’ll find hyperlinks throughout my posts. They often lead to Google Maps locations, Wikipedia articles, or products on Amazon UK. Using this website

The site is organised into three main areas – Adventures, Writing, and Reviews – all accessible from the menu at the top of any page. Most posts sit under one of those, though some wander across more than one.

There are two ways to search. The search bar at the top works across all posts; the Gemini icon at the bottom left is AI-powered and handles conversational questions. You can ask either something like “what’s a good gift for someone who loves camping” or “what do you think of the Anker 100w charger” and it’ll point you in the right direction based on what I’ve written.

Comments are open on every post. I read all of them and I reply. If something I’ve written is wrong, out of date, or you’ve had a different experience with a piece of kit, I’d genuinely like to know.
